Why is the GX470 holding it's value better than the LX470?

Because people love SUVs

I think it’s cause there’s more LX570s in the used market than GX460s. So people would aim for the newer one more and therefore pushes the prices down. Last time I checked, the first years of their replacements (2008 LX and 2011 GX) are similarly priced with similar mileage. Also cause GXs got replaced later in like 2010 compared to LX replacement in 2007.

Good question...probably has something to do with the fact that the GX is generally still more fashionable than the LX470, which is starting to be seen as the “1st gen escalade” in the fashion circles, where the GX is still seen as the fancy pants 4runner.

I’d wager neither one is doing as well as the Landcruiser, which I have always found humorous.

Is the LX more expensive to insure? Could be part of it.
Side note: I got stuck behind a GX on a twisty road today. I had a sad.

Isn't the GX a gussied up LC Prado?

Yup (same base as the 4runner). There isn’t a direct Lexus 4runner but the gx takes it’s place in consumers minds

Not from what I’ve seen. You can get a ‘05 GX470 for right around 10k. Meanwhile for 10k you can only find 1998-2000 LX470s and 100 series.

I had no idea the 4Runner and the Prado shared architecture.

Yup, same j120 and j150 chassis, more or less

I would love to see a Sequoia-based Lexus SUV... It would be a behemoth of gluttony and comfort.

Why isn’t this a thing? its not like LX buyers would notice the switch in platforms.
